Traineeships
Traineeships is a new learning programme for young people aged 16-18 in Wales. It aims to give young people the skills needed to progress into an apprenticeship, further education or employment.
Traineeships will be offered at Deeside College at two distinct levels to ensure we focus on the requirements of the young people and support and encourage them to progress. They are:
Engagement
This is for you if you are not sure what you want to do for a career or if you have certain barriers which prevent you from immediately taking part in employment or other learning. It will also prepare you for the world of work or full-time learning. It might include work placements, community projects, or training at Deeside College to help get you ready. Trainees on the Engagement strand will be paid an allowance of £30 a week.
Level 1
If you know what career at this level you want to follow and are ready and able to undertake full-time learning then you can access this level directly.
This pathway includes an 8 week in house programme to gain Employability Skills and Essential Skills Wales qualifications at Level One or Two. There is also the option to undertake work experience at the end of the 8 week programme where there is the possibility that the learner can work towards NVQs in their chosen vocation. The level 1 route also provides an opportunity to continue to address barriers the learner has which might prevent them from making progress into full-time employment or learning at a higher level.
Trainees on the Level 1 strand will be paid up to £50 a week allowance.
Career Paths
Administration, Hair & Beauty, Horticulture, Motor Vehicle, Catering, Child Care, Elderly Care, Hospitality, ICT, Retail, Construction, Equine, Small Animal Care and Travel and Tourism.
