Children's Care, Learning and Development
Children’s Care, Learning and Development courses prepare you for work within the sector. You will take part in interesting and fulfilling work placements to gain vital experience that will help you when you move on to look for employment.
For all courses you must be able to demonstrate the potential to work independently and safely in child care settings.
Career Paths
Classroom Assistant/Teacher, Nursery Nurse, Paediatric Nurse.

Courses
As you are likely to take part in work experience which involves either children or vulnerable adults as part of all these courses, you will need to complete an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check. If you have a criminal record you may still gain a place on the course, it depends on the nature and background of any offence. If you would like to discuss this issue in confidence, please contact our Student Services Advisers on 01244 834511 or call in to Deeside College to speak to them in person.

Name: Janice Crawford
Course: Children's Care, Learning and Development
Where are they now?: Early Years\Foundation Phase Classroom Assistant, Golftyn County Primary School
"I currently undertake work, care and support programmes to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. I monitor and evaluate pupils’ responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives.
My time at Deeside College gave me the opportunity to gain knowledge and an understanding of the career path that I had chosen to take. There was always a tutor willing to help, when help was needed. Having placement time gave me the opportunity to decide which setting I wanted to take my career forward in and also helped me to gain a full-time permanent position."
Did you know?
All students on Children's Care, Learning and Development full-time programmes undertake vocational placements as part of their course of study. These provide valuable experience and can help build links that could lead to employment.
