Five Travel and Tourism students from Deeside College won’t be bothered by the dreary weather this December. Instead they’ll be dreaming about a summer job with a difference having secured work placements as couriers with Keycamp holidays.
Rebecca Cooper, Jamie Bedford and Jordan Roberts are all students on the level 3 Travel and Tourism course at Deeside College and decided to apply for the positions in order to help them with their course and future careers. In the run up to summer the group will undoubtedly be asking questions to fellow Level 3 Travel and Tourism students Gareth Patton and Sian Higham who, after impressing Keycamp so much last year, have been requested to do a second season with the firm.
The group are still waiting to hear where they’ll be located, but could be placed at any one of Keycamp’s sites across Europe from June to September 2011. During the placement the students will gain valuable experience in customer service, scheduling and other crucial areas of the travel industry.
When asked about his experience as a Eurocamp courier last summer, Gareth from Abergele, who is also a Deeside College Student Ambassador, said: “Last year I was based in Platja D’aro in Northern Spain. I got the opportunity to undertake a range of different roles such as reception work and emergency call out duties. It was great to get the chance to put the skills I’d learnt during my first year as a Travel and Tourism student at Deeside College in to practice.”
Julia Jones, Travel and Tourism Lecturer at Deeside College, said “The travel courses offered at Deeside College open up a number of career options for students and the group will be well prepared for their placements thanks to the subjects they have studied. We wish them the best and look forward to hearing how they got on.
