Students achieved 100% pass rates in thirteen of the seventeen A2 level subjects delivered at the College, with an above national average overall College pass rate of 97.2%. As part of their Intermediate Welsh Baccalaureate Qualification the first year apprentices were asked to put their electrical skills to good use and design an activity board suitable for adults with learning difficulties.

The group made up of Sodexo catering employees and College security personnel performed the breathtaking task for the College’s chosen charity of the year, PAPYRUS.

This year, Year 9 & 10 pupils from across the county attended the week long course which culminated with the naming of two of the students who will now go on to compete in the finals of the Flintshire Junior Chef of 2010.

The competition is part of the UK Apprentice Welding Scheme sponsored by the industrial gases and engineering company BOC and supported in Wales by the Welsh Assembly Government. Separate events are also held in Scotland and England.

Following the publication of NEBOSH results, the College is well above the national average pass rates in all the health and safety courses it offers.

To mark the occasion, Deeside College held an Awards Ceremony this week for the successful candidates who have studied one of the three Level 3 programmes NEBOSH General Certificate, Fire Certificate or Construction Certificate.

The show garden, entitled ‘Focus on Learning', was in the style of a ‘Parks and Gardens’ bedding scheme.

The three concentric planting squares take inspiration from the previous College merger with the Welsh College of Horticulture and celebrate the forthcoming merger with Coleg Llysfasi.

Emma Green from Prestatyn, a Level 2 National Certificate in Floristry student at Deeside College’s Northop Campus battled it out with eighteen other competitors to be crowned the Welsh Intermediate champion at the SkillsCompetition Wales Floristry Competition along with Alison Copper from Salford studying on the Level 4 Higher Diploma in Floristry at Deeside College who took first place in the Advanced Category.
