Paramount Foods Apprentices Celebrate Qualifications

Staff at Paramount Foods were celebrating this week after receiving their Foundation Modern Apprenticeship awards in Food and Drink Manufacturing Operations. The twenty one staff were joined by the Paramount Foods Management Team and the Deeside College Assessment Team at an awards ceremony held at the company head office on the Deeside Industrial Park. Director of Operations, Mrs Carolyn King, who was on hand to present the certificates, said: “I’m delighted to see the staff members rewarded for all the hard work carried out while undertaking their qualifications.” Carolyn added: “Paramount Foods have worked in partnership with Deeside College for eight years. In that time, we have had a great many staff achieve their National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) as well as other qualifications. But this is the first time we have had so many apprentices’ achieve at the same time. I feel the NVQ programme has added great benefits to both the staff and our company. I look forward to the next group of apprentices’ achieving their awards early next year.”

Paramount Foods employs 403 staff across three sites producing high quality pizzas for the leading supermarkets. Production is currently running at 300,000 pizzas per week and thanks to new orders, it is hoped that this will increase dramatically in the new year.

The Paramount Food apprentices were assessed throughout their studies by Deeside College Work Based Learning Assessors, Nick Jones and Mike McKay. Speaking at the ceremony, Nick said: “Both myself and Mike thoroughly enjoy working with the staff at Paramount Foods. All the apprentices’ worked extremely hard and it’s very rewarding to see them collect their Foundation Modern Apprenticeship frameworks today.”

Carolyn Preece, who manages the Work Based Learning Food Manufacturing provision for Deeside College echoed Nick’s sentiments saying: “It is extremely satisfying to congratulate so many apprentices at one employer.”
