Thomas Cook Aircraft Maintenance apprentices who study at Deeside College have become the first group from the College to pass the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Part 66 exam. The qualification licences Engineers to carry out maintenance and ‘continuing airworthiness’ checks on aircraft and must be held by certified Engineers working in the industry.

Deeside College learner Jennifer Collett, who has recently completed her NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety with a Distinction grade, has been named as the ‘Best Candidate’ in the Diploma Unit C examination. At this year’s National NEBOSH Graduation Ceremony, held at Warwick University, Jennifer was recognised as the best candidate after being awarded the highest examination mark out of almost 800 other students who took the exam, both in the UK and internationally.

Green fingered Aeronautical apprentices from Airbus in the UK and My Travel, who train at Deeside College, spent their recent half term completing the citizenship element of their Welsh Baccalaureate qualification in the gardens of Ysgol Belmont, Buckley.

At the recent fforwm National Conference, Deeside College created a record by beating off strong competition from colleges from across Wales to win all four fforwm awards for which they were short listed. fforwm is the national organisation representing all further education colleges in Wales, and their annual awards recognise excellence.
