NSPCC becomes our Charity of the Year

Following a very successful year raising £32,042 for the Alzheimer's Society, Deeside College students and staff will again be hoping to raise lots of money for their new charity of the year, the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC).
Students, staff and the children of the College's Toybox Nursery are now planning a series of fund-raising events and activities for the coming year. From Dragon Boat racing, white water rafting and Fun Days to sponsored walks, bike rides and marathons, it promises to be a busy year.
The NSPCC aim is to protect children from cruelty, support vulnerable families, campaign for changes to the law and raise awareness about child abuse. The NSPCC look to achieve these aims in a variety of ways. In Wales, the charity operates the NSPCC Cymru Helpline which provides support and advice to anyone who has concerns about the welfare of a child. They also run a variety of community based projects that strive to change cultural and social attitudes as well as provide essential services to benefit children.
David Jones, Principal and Chief Executive at Deeside College, said,
Deeside College aims to provide more than just education and training; we encourage students to become true citizens who get involved in their local community and help others. By taking part in fund-raising activities, students gain new skills and increase their self confidence. I am so impressed by, and proud of the generosity of our staff, who freely give their time, money and commitment and raise large sums of money for charity. We're looking forward to supporting the NSPCC this year.
