Merger Creates New college for North East Wales |
![]() The creation of a dynamic merged college able to serve the diverse needs of North East Wales and the particular needs of the land based sector will deliver many benefits to the region. The “one-stop-shop” will provide learners and employers with the widest range of easily accessible courses in North Wales. The merger will provide security for the future of land based provision in North Wales, including from Deeside College, Animal Care, Equine, Floristry, Horticulture and Land based Engineering and from Coleg Llysfasi, Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Animal Care and Forestry and Conservation. The new college will also provide learners with a broader range of courses available through the medium of Welsh. Principal and Chief Executive of the new merger college, Mr David Jones, who is clear that the merger is a step forward for the colleges and Further Education in Wales, said: "Following our successful merger with the Welsh College of Horticulture in 2009, we have demonstrated how college mergers can make the sector stronger and more efficient. We are delighted by this latest achievement which will bring together two very successful further education colleges in North East Wales. Both colleges have a long and proud history of providing excellent teaching and learning and working together in partnership. We are confident that this merger will build on these successful foundations and enhance learning opportunities to support businesses, communities and individuals in the region." Mr Jones went on to say: "I am confident that through our excellent staff we have the skills, capacity and experience to establish the college as an international centre of excellence for Further Education and vocational learning, as we will play an important part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s rightly ambitious policies for education, lifelong learning and skills."
